WEEK 5 - ATKINS PHASE 2, OWL
170 lbs
DAY 35

1) I need a job.
2) Rupaul's "Drag Race" is the best thing since sliced butter.
Also I miraculously made a miraculous pot de creme without a recipe and without writing down the quantities I used. This is what it entailed:
On lowest heat, melt butter, and then stir in coco powder, Splenda, heavy cream, tsp vanilla (I used vanilla bean paste), and a couple dashes of cinnamon. Pour into small bowls and chill in the refrigerator for a half hour (an hour if all in one big bowl).
It was so decadently wonderful, but will most likely never be equally recreated. Still, what could go wrong with any combination of those ingredients?

I had a wonderful night with my husband and friends that just returned from a trip to New York. They brought me a flipbook of a ballerina from The New Museum. We made paper airplanes, played Euchre, and feasted on a banquette of decadences. The souffle my friends made was delicious. Here are some recipes I tried for the first time that worked out:

BEET SALAD
Trim off the greens from beets (leave an inch; don't cut off the root). Boil beets for 40-50 minutes. Cool beets off in an ice bath and then peel off the skin with your hand. Slice the beets and mix with red onion, feta, lemon juice and balsamic vinegar.
BLUEBERRIES & CREAM
Wash blueberries and place in a small serving bowl. Mix in some grated lemon rind. Pour heavy cream over the top and sprinkle with Spenda.
ARTICHOKES & SAUCE
The artichokes were a combined effort. Rinse the artichokes, cut off about an inch from the top, and then snip each leaf. Boil with a garlic clove, bay leaf, and lemon slice for 45 minutes. The dipping sauce is just mayo with lemon juice stirred together until smooth.
After we got home I watched an episode of Fat Albert and learned about lying from The Cosby Kids. Hey! Hey! Hey!

We were out of just about everything, so my grocery list was pretty thorough today. Thanks to research and tips from readers, here's a typical list of what I keep in the house and what it's used for.

Meanwhile, I finally got caught up on So You Think You Can Dance (I have to wait until episodes are posted online). My favorites are of course Melanie, Sasha, and Tadd (and I also like Ashley's lisp, Jordan's age inappropriate over sexualization, and Mitchell's unabashed nonsense).

I don't care for Robert-I-Only-Wooo! and Sob Story Ryan (the girl who finally made it into the top 20 after years of near success and then cheesed her way through this nonsense):

Well, hello there, Mr. Pat of Butter, did you know that I lost 10 lbs on Atkins? And you, Ms. Bacon, did you know that I lost 10 lbs in 4 weeks? You didn't? Hmmm, perhaps if I hadn't eaten you, your parents, your children, your greased up brethren, and your entire village, you would be more excited about my benchmark weight loss.
